At least six Russian generals have been targeted in assassination attempts away from the front lines since December 2024, three of them fatal, Meduza reports. The killings began with Igor Kirillov, head of Russia's Radioactive, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces, who died in a Moscow scooter-bomb blast; two more generals, Yaroslav Moskalik and Fanil Sarvarov, were killed in car bombings in 2025. The most recent apparent target, per Meduza, is Colonel General Alexander Chayko, head of Russia's Aerospace Forces, who was reportedly celebrating his birthday near a Moscow restaurant on August first when an explosion occurred nearby. Russian authorities have offered little official comment on the pattern, though Moscow's mayor called the latest blast a terrorist attack.
