U.S. news jobs are more than 3× more likely to be based in Manhattan than they were 25 years ago

Manhattan's grip on American journalism keeps tightening, despite a decade of predictions to the contrary. Nieman Lab reports that by twenty twenty-five, one in every twelve U.S. newspaper jobs were based in Manhattan—up from one in forty-eight in two thousand, a nearly fourfold increase. Remote work and digital platforms were supposed to scatter journalism away from expensive coasts. Instead, the concentration has accelerated, with newsroom employment increasingly clustered in a few square miles of Midtown.
