Benjamin Alire Sáenz, first Latino winner of PEN/Faulkner award, dies aged 71

Author Benjamin Alire Sáenz has died at age seventy-one, according to The Guardian. He was the first Latino writer to win the PEN/Faulkner award, honored for a story collection, and also wrote a young adult novel that drew both acclaim and censorship attempts. The Guardian reports he died on July twenty-eighth in El Paso, Texas, after a lengthy illness, per a spokesperson for Simon & Schuster.
