One Nation is expected to contest the Western Australian seat of Canning, held by Liberal MP Peter Hastie. The move coincides with a parliamentary inquiry into gambling reform, where former rugby league star Luke Bateman alleged betting company promoters supplied him with cocaine and alcohol. He also testified he attended private events hosted by gambling firms where executives took illegal drugs with clients. Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt commented on the allegations, saying anyone offering illegal drugs as an inducement is committing a crime and should pay the price. Per The Guardian, both Tabcorp and Sportsbet say there is no evidence they provided drugs and escorts to customers.
