GPs’ breast cancer guidelines ‘miss’ 95% of women who will develop disease

New research from the University of Cambridge and the Institute of Cancer Research in London suggests current NICE guidelines for GPs are missing ninety-five percent of women under fifty who go on to develop breast cancer within a decade. Because these criteria determine who gets referred for further risk assessment and specialist care, the findings have prompted calls for the guidelines to be reviewed.
