Companies may find it easier to join the ASX if these rule changes go ahead

business

Australia's stock exchange is losing companies—listings dropped from two thousand seventy-three in twenty fourteen to one thousand nine hundred eighty-nine in twenty twenty-four. Per The Conversation, ASIC, Australia's financial regulator, is concerned. Public markets are crucial: they're where everyday investors can participate openly and where regulators supervise effectively. On Tuesday, ASIC proposed a fix: allow companies to advertise share offerings before filing a formal prospectus. Currently, that's banned completely. Under the new rules, companies could advertise earlier if they clearly identify themselves, confirm a prospectus will be ready, and direct investors to the disclosure document. ASIC hopes this helps companies gauge interest and makes going public more appealing. The risk: advertising might sway investors despite the guardrails. But regulators think restoring confidence in public markets is worth it—that's where everyday people invest transparently and build wealth.
