Russia opens administrative case against anti-war politician Boris Nadezhdin over Meduza interview

Russian authorities have opened an administrative case against anti-war politician Boris Nadezhdin over an interview he gave to Meduza in July, according to the outlet. He's charged under a statute on participating in the activities of an undesirable organization—a designation Russia has applied to Meduza itself—with a potential fine of up to fifteen thousand rubles. The case stems from an escalating legal campaign against Nadezhdin this summer. In mid-June he filed to run as an independent candidate in Russia's State Duma, but authorities moved quickly: on July tenth he was designated a foreign agent, detained three days later, and cited for displaying extremist symbols over a photograph of Alexey Navalny. Those designations left him ineligible to run. On August third, Nadezhdin announced via video from Paris that he had left Russia, defying a state ban on his departure.
