Testing Hundreds of Used LFP Cells Requires Some Automation

A maker project known as Within Tolerance recently faced a practical dilemma: they'd acquired seven hundred sixty-eight used lithium iron phosphate cells from old commercial battery packs for a go-kart project, but manually testing each one's condition would be incredibly tedious. So, per Hackaday, they built an automated solution called Cell Goblin — a custom circuit board powered by an E-S-P thirty-two S-2 microcontroller that can charge, discharge, and measure each cell's health and internal resistance. Using five of these testers working simultaneously, the team could evaluate ten cells at a time. The entire project, software included, is open-source on GitHub, though as of the article's publication, the testing was still underway.
