An emperor penguin colony in Antarctica saw a massive drop in chicks in 2025, and Science News reports a nearby grounded iceberg may be to blame. Emperor penguins, the largest of the penguin species, breed on sea ice, so shifts in ice conditions can directly threaten their colonies.
