RBC: Russian insurers effectively stop covering war risks for cargo ships in Azov, Black Seas

business

According to Meduza, Russian insurers have withdrawn war risk coverage for cargo ships in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. The London insurance market has formally designated these waters as high-risk zones, automatically excluding standard insurance policies from covering damage once a ship enters the area. This follows escalating Ukrainian naval drone attacks on vessels in the region, including a strike on a Russian container ship on August first. Turkish authorities are now urging both Russia and Ukraine to ensure maritime safety, as shipping in these contested waters has become increasingly perilous for commercial vessels.
