Tomorrow’s U.S. Senate Vote: Four Internet Bills, One Wrong Direction

This week, the Senate Commerce Committee will vote on four internet bills designed to protect children: K-O-S-A, the SCREEN Act, the Youth AI Privacy Act, and the CHATBOT Act. But the Electronic Frontier Foundation has serious doubts about whether they'll work. Per the EFF, these bills would force platforms to restrict speech and collect massive amounts of personal data from users of all ages—creating privacy and surveillance problems that would outweigh any safety benefits. The EFF recommends Congress focus instead on broader consumer privacy laws or bans on behavioral advertising that tracks users across the web.
