Cori Bush’s comeback bid falls short in Missouri Democratic primary

politics

Former Democratic Representative Cori Bush will not return to Congress after losing to Wesley Bell in the Missouri Democratic primary for the second time. The 19th reports Bush was first elected in twenty twenty, becoming the first Black woman to represent Missouri in the House. Bell, a former St. Louis County prosecutor, defeated her in twenty twenty-four and again this year, with backing from Nancy Pelosi and the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC. The race served as a test of progressive versus establishment politics—and Missouri Democratic voters chose the latter. The outcome sets back efforts toward equitable representation of Black women in Congress.
