UN forecasters warn that a rapidly developing El Niño weather system could push fifty million more people into acute hunger before the end of next year, The Guardian reports. That would compound the hundreds of millions already facing severe hunger across forty-five countries, worsened by prolonged drought in parts of Africa and food-price pressure from the war in Iran.
