Per ProPublica, State Rep. James Talarico accused Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton of voter fraud—but the news organization discovered Talarico himself voted in five elections from his parents' address after buying a home in June twenty twenty-two. He didn't update his voter registration until September twenty twenty-four. Paxton has made voter fraud enforcement central to his tenure as attorney general, aggressively pursuing alleged violators. Yet ProPublica's reporting found he voted six times from an address his estranged wife said he no longer inhabited. An ethics attorney told ProPublica he doubts either actually broke the law, but said Paxton should be held to a higher standard—when top officials pursue others for actions they themselves may have committed, it undermines their credibility.
