80-million-year-old snake brain reveals a surprising evolutionary secret

Scientists have discovered an exceptionally preserved fossil of an ancient snake from eighty million years ago in Brazil. Brain reconstructions of the fossil, called Tametara mirim, show it was adapted for burrowing, while other contemporary fossils reveal snakes had already evolved for above-ground and marine lifestyles as well. Per ScienceDaily, these findings demonstrate that early snakes were far more diverse than scientists previously understood.
