EU stops granting temporary protection to newly arrived Ukrainian men of military agewithout military service exemptions
politics
Per Meduza, the European Union has tightened its rules on temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees. As of this week, newly arrived Ukrainian men of military age can no longer claim that protection unless they can prove they've fulfilled their military service obligations back home. The restriction also applies to men of military age seeking protection to join family members already in the EU. Ukrainians already holding temporary protection status are unaffected by the change. The EU has extended temporary protection for all other Ukrainian citizens through March fourth, twenty twenty-eight, citing Ukraine's changing defense needs.
