An x86 bare metal RAM dumper

tech

Adafruit Blog is reporting on BareMetal RAM Dumper, an x86 bare-metal tool that boots from USB to dump a system's RAM to disk. The tool was developed for experimenting with cold boot attacks—where researchers freeze a laptop's memory to minus sixty degrees Celsius, then quickly reboot from USB to extract the contents before they degrade. This technique could allow extraction of sensitive information like encryption keys, which the tool accesses via BIOS interrupts and protected mode.
