Rep. Thanedar loses to socialist McKinney in Democratic primary for congress
politics
Donavan McKinney, a state representative from Detroit, defeated two-term incumbent Rep. Shri Thanedar in Tuesday's Democratic primary for Michigan's 13th Congressional District, according to Axios. McKinney's narrow fifty-one point nine percent to forty-eight point one percent victory restores Black representation to Detroit's congressional seat after the district elected Thanedar in twenty twenty-two. Despite Thanedar's funding advantage, McKinney secured endorsements from local institutions and national progressives including Bernie Sanders and Rashida Tlaib. In this heavily Democratic district, McKinney is expected to win November's general election.
