New York City transit auctions off last MetroCard machines: ‘wild home decor idea’

Per the Guardian, New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is auctioning off its last MetroCard vending machines as the system transitions to Omny, a contactless payment platform. The auction opened Wednesday morning and runs through August nineteenth. The retired machines, weighing up to one thousand fifty pounds, have served subway riders for decades. The MTA is offering both MetroCard Vending Machines and MetroCard Express Machines.
