Polyphonic music—when two or more melodic lines run together—has an older documented history than previously known. Per Boing Boing, the earliest known written example is a short piece in praise of Saint Boniface, composed around the year nine hundred. It was discovered in twenty fourteen by Giovanni Varelli, then a doctoral student at St John's College, Cambridge.
