Trans woman wins Democratic nomination for Michigan state legislature

The Guardian reports that Joanna Whaley, a former megachurch pastor who survived fifteen years of conversion practices, won the Democratic primary for Michigan's state legislature's second district on Tuesday. She defeated Frank Liberati, a former state representative, and Gary Schlack, and is set to become the first transgender member of the Michigan statehouse.
