More than 1,100 people convicted of illegal arrival in UK since 2022

The Guardian reports that more than one thousand one hundred people have been convicted of illegally arriving in the United Kingdom since twenty twenty-two. Among those prosecuted are survivors of torture and trafficking. The Home Office introduced the illegal arrival offense in twenty twenty-two specifically to deter people from crossing the Channel by small boat or entering through other irregular means, such as in lorries.
