A reverse avalanche oscillator #EE

tech

Adafruit reports on an oscillator circuit designed by Michal Zalewski that breaks nearly every design rule. It requires high supply voltage, operates inefficiently, needs a large capacitor, and suffers from poor frequency stability. But the circuit becomes educational: it explores a corner of semiconductor physics most textbooks ignore—a specific region of the voltage-current curve—proving these components hold far more complexity than their standard datasheets reveal.
