Ars Technica reports that YouTube's AI disclosure policy has some notable inconsistencies. The platform requires labels on 'meaningfully altered or generated photorealistic content,' but applies the rule unevenly: AI-generated music requires disclosure, while a fantastical unicorn scene doesn't need one despite being potentially photorealistic. Many AI uses avoid disclosure entirely, including idea generation, script assistance, thumbnail creation, and cloning your own voice for narration. Hank Green spotted these gaps in the policy.
