Republican who withdrew last month beats Trump-backed rival in Michigan

Per The Guardian, Thomas Smith's name remained on Michigan's Republican primary ballot for the eighth district, even though he had withdrawn from the race just last month. Smith won the nomination with more than fifty percent of the vote, defeating anti-abortion activist Al Lemmo, whom Smith had endorsed, and Amir Hassan, a former federal law enforcement officer backed by Donald Trump.
