DOJ ordered to release unredacted Epstein files or explain why it can't
politics
According to Axios, a federal judge has ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to release additional unredacted Epstein files by July second, or publicly explain why it can't. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan issued the order in response to a lawsuit by media analyst Katie Phang, who alleges the DOJ violated last year's Epstein Act. The department has already released three point five million pages, but Phang argues officials improperly withheld or redacted additional material — including the names of people in email exchanges about a torture video, alleged sexual activity involving minors, and draft indictment co-defendants. She also alleges the department withheld thirty-six documents mentioning President Trump, including FBI interview notes from a woman who claims Epstein introduced her to Trump in the nineteen eighties when she was about thirteen, and that Trump assaulted her. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime related to these allegations.
