NASA’s IXPE May Have Proven 90-Year-Old Theory
science
NASA's space telescope IXPE has captured the first direct evidence of a ninety-year-old prediction in quantum physics. After observing a magnetar—a neutron star with magnetic fields over a trillion times stronger than Earth's—researchers found X-ray polarization patterns that standard models couldn't explain. That missing piece: vacuum birefringence, the theory that extreme magnetic fields transform empty space into something like a lens, bending and filtering light. According to NASA News, the findings published Wednesday in Nature provide strong support for this long-predicted quantum behavior about reality itself.
