The next generation of MCP

dev_tools

On Thursday, Cloudflare announced the next generation of the Model Context Protocol, a standard for how AI agents interact with external services. The key innovation: MCP is now stateless, eliminating persistent connections and complex session management. Previously, servers required sticky sessions and coordination overhead—a significant operational burden. The payoff is that MCP servers can now run on simple infrastructure like Cloudflare Workers, reducing operational complexity and costs. The specification also improved how servers request additional information from clients and tightened authorization mechanisms, making it easier for developers to build and deploy AI agents.
