Show HN: I spent 2 years designing a mechanical Magic Keyboard

A developer who quit their job to design keyboards full time is revealing Altar II, per Hacker News—a mechanical alternative to Apple's Magic Keyboard. The ultra-slim keyboard, just four point seven five millimeters high, packs fully mechanical switches, a magnetically detachable dial, haptic feedback, and a red backlight with a native macOS companion app. The project took nearly two years to complete, with major challenges including fitting a reasonably sized battery while implementing aggressive power management, and the extreme component density that left literally no room on the underside of the circuit board. The developer's first keyboard post on Hacker News four years ago generated enough interest to convince them to go full-time, and Altar II incorporates feedback from that original post, including the dial that users requested.
