Educators & Teens Get Hands-On With TEMPO Data to Help Investigate Local Air Quality

At a recent leadership institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, NASA gathered thirteen educators to explore TEMPO-Lab—a free online tool for analyzing near-real-time air quality data from NASA's TEMPO mission, which monitors North American pollution hourly during daylight. Together, the educators developed curriculum resources around wildfire smoke, rush-hour traffic, power plants, and agricultural pollution, designed to help teenagers investigate the air quality where they live and decide what actions they might take. The impact is already multiplying: these thirteen educators plan to bring the toolkit to approximately one hundred additional educators across South Dakota, Maryland, and New York—potentially extending this work to thousands of teen researchers transforming their lived experience into evidence-based action.
