Build America: Eliminating Barriers to Wireline Deployments

The Federal Communications Commission is proposing rules to clear obstacles to broadband infrastructure deployment. State and local governments often impose excessive delays and fees when authorizing wireline projects, the FCC says. The new rules would require jurisdictions to process public rights-of-way authorizations within one hundred twenty days, set authorization fees at actual government costs, and prohibit additional requirements based on potential future uses of the infrastructure. The FCC, acting on findings from a twenty twenty-five inquiry, is seeking public comment before finalizing the proposal.
