NASA’s Lunar Development and Test Facility Prepares Artemis Hardware for Moon

NASA's Johnson Space Center is running a dress rehearsal for Artemis astronauts—not for walking on the Moon, but for dealing with its most persistent nemesis: lunar dust. Unlike the sand you might shake out of your shoes, Moon dust is sharp, clingy, and potentially damaging to equipment and spacesuits. Per NASA News, engineers at the Lunar Development and Test Facility are testing hardware in vacuum chambers using lunar regolith simulant to figure out how to keep dust from wrecking missions. The facility, which includes both ambient labs and massive thermal vacuum chambers, helps NASA develop protective technologies and explore ways to extract oxygen and rocket propellant from the lunar surface itself—turning a hazard into a resource for long-duration exploration.
