In Montana, a controversial $2B pipeline hits a speed bump

A two-billion-dollar pipeline project to move Canadian oil through Montana has hit a regulatory bump. Grist reports the Bridger Pipeline Expansion was advancing with expedited federal approval, expected to move up to one point one three million barrels per day at full capacity. But Montana's environmental agency recently withdrew a waiver that had allowed the company to skip submitting key financial and environmental data with its permit application. After environmental groups challenged the incomplete filing, the regulator now requires the company to provide the missing information before the project can proceed. Environmental groups oppose the pipeline, citing its path across more than one hundred fifty water crossings and broader climate concerns.
