House Democrats Demand Answers From Trump’s VA on Vets Struggling to Access Mental Healthcare
politics
More than sixty House Democrats have sent VA Secretary Doug Collins a letter demanding answers about the agency's mental healthcare crisis for veterans. The letter, led by Rep. Judy Chu, cites a ProPublica investigation that found hundreds of psychologists and psychiatrists have left the VA without being replaced, leaving some veterans in group sessions of up to thirty-five people. ProPublica reports the lawmakers are pushing the VA to disclose provider shortages and wait times, with a response deadline of August fourteenth. A VA spokesperson defended the agency's record, saying it completed more mental healthcare appointments last year while lowering wait times.
