The world's biggest solar telescope caught vortexes on the Sun's surface

Researchers using the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, the world's largest solar observatory at four meters across, have detected vortexes swirling on the Sun's surface. According to Ars Technica, a team led by David Kuridze and Friedrich Wöger spotted what physicists call Kelvin-Helmholtz instability—the same turbulence that creates ripples when wind blows across water or shears clouds into curves. Scientists had long theorized this should occur in the Sun's plasma, but the vortexes were too small for older telescopes to detect. The finding could reshape how we understand heat, mass, and magnetic energy movement through the Sun's atmosphere.
