Police and prosecution errors left proven sex offender free to murder two women in London

Catastrophic police and prosecution failures allowed a known sex offender to remain free long enough to murder two women in London. According to The Guardian, an Old Bailey jury found Simon Levy guilty of murdering Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo in March 2025 and Sheryl Wilkins five months later. The Crown Prosecution Service admits it failed to tell courts about Levy's past convictions and his status as a suspect in a 2024 rape, while British Transport Police delayed an identification parade that let his bail run on even as he faced sexual assault charges. The police watchdog has since placed two Metropolitan Police officers under investigation over his supervision as a registered sex offender.
