Its documented history begins in sixteen seventy-nine, accelerating in seventeen twenty-three when George Wilhelm von Reisewitz, Court Marshal of Frederick the Great, built the central palace. When the Tiele-Winckler family acquired the estate in eighteen sixty-six, they commissioned sweeping renovations that added Gothic and Neo-Renaissance wings, transforming it into the eclectic masterpiece visitors admire today. After the family fled in nineteen forty-five as the Red Army advanced, the castle was nationalized and repurposed—serving as a psychiatric center from nineteen seventy-two through twenty thirteen, when it was restored and reopened to the public. Today it operates as a hotel and cultural venue, having outlasted the Prussian Empire, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union through architectural persistence alone.
