DOGE's wild, unverifiable savings claims discredited in US government report

Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, reported saving taxpayers forty-nine point two billion dollars by terminating federal grants. But Congress's watchdog agency, the Government Accountability Office, found it couldn't verify most of those savings. In a report on Thursday, the GAO determined that for ninety-six percent of the reported grant savings, it had no way to confirm how DOGE calculated the numbers or what the cuts consisted of.
