Window Rock in West Wendover, Nevada

Per Atlas Obscura, Window Rock is a wave-cut arch stranded high and dry atop a ridge in West Wendover, Nevada—an unusual feature carved by the Pleistocene-era Lake Bonneville thousands of years ago. Lake Bonneville once covered much of western Utah and stretched into Nevada and Idaho, reaching its peak roughly seventeen point five thousand years ago. At its maximum extent, the lake spanned dozens of miles across and plunged hundreds of feet deep. As the climate gradually dried, the lake level dropped dramatically, eventually falling below the outlet where this arch sits. Today, the structure stands as evidence of the tremendous erosive power Lake Bonneville wielded at such an enormous scale.
