Job-Less Utopia: Macroeconomics in the Age of AGI

LessWrong reports that AI researcher Marcus Hutter has published a new book arguing that automation driven by AGI will eventually eliminate most human jobs—and that far from being dystopian, this outcome is actually desirable and economically sustainable. Rather than betting on new jobs appearing or accepting mass unemployment as catastrophe, Hutter proposes financing society through universal basic income, arguing the necessary taxes on automation and resources are affordable and that democratic pressure will ensure the gains of AGI are shared. The book develops this case across thirteen theses spanning everything from land taxation to international coordination.
