Scratch of the day: local football season postponed due to ‘rock hard’ pitches

Extreme heat and drought have grounded British football—at least at the local level. The Guardian reports that the Anglian Combination League has postponed its new season, delaying kick-off to late August for its eighty-five amateur teams in Norfolk and Suffolk. The pitches have become too hard and unsafe to play on.
