Suspected AI use is the entertainment industry's scarlet letter

Axios reports that the entertainment industry has developed a purity test around generative AI, where even the slightest hint can be career-ending, with almost no room for nuance. Creator Hank Green ran into this when viewers spotted the phrase 'I appreciate the pushback' in a recent video and suspected AI generation. Green clarified it was an improvised ad-lib, though he did acknowledge using AI to research papers and resources, and apologized for those interactions. Author Jerry Falade experienced something far more severe: a two-million-dollar book deal from a fourteen-way auction collapsed over unproven rumors of AI usage, despite the work passing multiple rounds of professional editing. The industry hasn't established any clear boundaries around what kind of AI assistance is acceptable, and once the accusation lands, there's essentially no coming back.
