Taras, a four-year-old lion, was rescued from Ukraine's war in twenty twenty-two after being discovered as a cub in a duffel bag at Odesa railway station. The International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Wildcat Sanctuary brought him to a private reserve near Sandstone, Minnesota. The Guardian reports he's now facing a rare and often fatal fungal disease — a new test for a lion who's already survived so much.
