Butterfly ranges shift worldwide amid climate change, with most species expanding their reach

A global analysis of one thousand seven hundred fifty-eight butterfly species—ten percent of all known butterflies—shows that eighty percent have expanded their range, Phys.org is reporting. Published in Nature Ecology & Evolution, the study found that seventy-nine percent of all documented range shifts were linked to climate change and extreme weather. The analysis also recorded range contractions for twenty-seven percent of species and elevation changes in twenty-two percent.
