Netflix says it's ultimately David Fincher's fault we didn't get a third season of Mindhunter
entertainment
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has confirmed what many Mindhunter fans suspected: the cancellation of a third season was David Fincher's call. The director-producer had stepped away to focus on filmmaking, and per Sarandos, Fincher is too meticulous to juggle multiple projects at once. The psychological thriller, which aired two seasons on Netflix and hinted throughout at hunting the B.T.K. Killer, was never formally canceled—instead it languished on indefinite hold for years before Fincher effectively ended it in 2023. Sarandos made the comments this week at an event in New Delhi, noting he'd have loved to see a third season, but respected Fincher's creative priorities. The revelation comes as news also broke that another Fincher Netflix project—an American adaptation of the Korean hit Squid Game—has also fallen through.
