New machine-learning-powered alert system to warn drivers of wildlife

According to MetaFilter, Australia is testing a machine-learning alert system designed to warn drivers when wildlife is nearby. An estimated ten million animals are killed on Australian roads each year, and the new system, currently being trialed on the Monaro Highway near Canberra, aims to reduce that toll.
