Brains break and repair DNA to grow

According to Science News, researchers have discovered that developing neurons in newborn mice deliberately break both strands of their DNA to migrate to new locations—then repair the damage within a single day. Scientists believe this DNA breakage and repair cycle may be a normal part of brain development. The finding could help explain how neural circuits form and potentially illuminate human brain development as well.
