FRANCE-UK: On the beach as migrants try to cross the Channel

world

Warm weather and calm seas have brought a surge in English Channel crossing attempts. According to France 24, which filmed on the beaches near Calais on June eighteenth, migrants from Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Nigeria, and Uganda attempted to board small boats bound for the UK. One heavily overcrowded vessel departed before a waiting group could board. The UK Home Office recorded three hundred ninety-two arrivals that day; so far this year, ten thousand two hundred forty-four migrants have successfully made the crossing.
