Atlassian Just Deleted Loom’s Free Creator Seats. They Were Also Loom’s Distribution.
saas
Atlassian has eliminated free viewer seats in Loom, automatically converting all watchers inside paid workspaces to billed Creator seats, with a grace period for admins to deactivate anyone before the first charge. A workspace with ten recorders and ninety watchers now pays for one hundred instead of ten. SaaStr reports this mirrors a pattern across recent tech acquisitions: Salesforce, Intuit, and IBM all cut free tiers in Slack, Mailchimp, and HashiCorp within twelve to twenty-six months of purchase. Figma made the opposite call in March twenty twenty-five, introducing free View seats for stakeholders who need to see but not edit. The driver is arithmetic: when headcount stops growing, per-seat revenue stops growing with it, prompting acquirers to find revenue in previously free seats.
