Israeli general says Gaza should remain ‘destroyed for generations’

world

A former head of Israel's National Security Council says Gaza should stay in ruins for decades, arguing that visible destruction serves as a lasting deterrent tied to October 7th. Retired Major General Giora Eiland made the comments on Israeli radio, Middle East Eye reports, adding that Israel should keep permanent control of the so-called Yellow Line, the military-held buffer inside Gaza. Eiland, who opposes Prime Minister Netanyahu politically, also broke with him by dismissing the US-backed Gaza plan as "pro-Hamas" — a plan Netanyahu himself has now formally rejected. The remarks come as Gaza's death toll from the war continues to climb even after October's ceasefire took effect.
